Not built strong enough for my Skywatcher 12" Collapsible Go-To Dobsonian

The horizontal metal bar opposite the handle bar and holding the two front wheels and two leveling bolts bowed noticeably due to the weight of the telescope. As a result, the two vertical reinforcing boards on the sides of the base hit one of the leveling bolts in azimuth rotation. I had to remove the bolt and take two inches off its length to solve the problem. I'm certain that this would not happen if the scope was not Go-To. There is a significant difference in weight compared to my Apertura 12" Dob. On the positive side, the Wheeley Bar made moving the telescope a breeze moving it from my garage to the side of the house. Just be careful to stabilize the scope with your other hand as you move it.

Good service. Would recommend and use again.

Better than a hand dolly

Nice mover for a heavy dob but overpriced for what it is. A handy person could make something similar for a lot less money.

We are accepting pre-sale orders for our incoming production run due in May.  We expect orders placed now to ship on May 31st.  We expect that this production run will sell out fast!

Sky Trekker 300 Wheeley Bar for Dobsonian telescopes.

Our Sky Trekker series Wheeley Bars for Dobsonian telescopes make moving your heavy or  awkward Dobsonian telescope a breeze.  Quickly roll your scope out of storage to your observing area, level ( using the built-in leveling screws), and begin observing.  The process takes just a minute and is nearly effortless.  Your overall observing experience will be much more pleasant and you will find that you will observe more and enjoy your hobby more because setting up is so much quicker and easier.

Sizing:  To determine if your telescope will fit this model you will need to measure the distance between the centers of two of the three feet on the bottom side of the ground board.  We will call this the center-of-foot to center-of-foot (cof-to-cof) distance.  To measure this, you will need to turn the rocker box part of the telescope upside down.  Measure the distance between the centers of two of the three feet on the bottom.  Be fairly accurate with your reading.  Record this number.

The Sky Trekker 300 fits telescopes with a cof-to-cof distance of either:

  • 15.75" to 16.875"  (400mm to 428mm)
  • 19.5" to 20.625"  (495mm to 523mm)

Telescopes known to work this this model are :

  • Apertura AD12
  • Meade LightBridge 10″ / 12" (Due to variations in foot placement on the 10" LightBridge, one or more of the feet on the base of the scope may need to be moved in order for this scope to fit)
  • Orion SkyQuest XT12 / XX12 (Some modification is neeeded to make the Go-To scopes fit due to placement of four nuts on the azimuth bolt mounting plate (bottom of scope/ground board).
  • Zhumell 10″ / 12″
  • Sky-Watcher 12″

Other considerations:

  • The maximum diameter ground board that this model will support is x"
  • This Wheeley Bar raises your telescope approximately 3.5" off the ground
  • Wheels are 10" diamter pneumatic for all surface use.
  • Width (at rear wheels) is xx"
  • Length (front to back including wheels) is x"
