The Autocollimator is a seemingly simple device, however is must be made with absolute precision  to perform as an optical instrument.  It turns out that it's super difficult to machine something to the level of precision needed to this to work well.  In the beginning, I designed what I thought was right and we got close, but not close enough.  So I tried again and again and again and again....

I purchased every other brand of autocollimator I could find, took them apart and examined them.  It turns out that none of them were "really good" and most of them were junk,  So I kept at it.  It literally took me 10 years to figure out how to machine these devices to the level of precision that makes them REALLY GOOD.  In 2016 we finally did it - we found a way to make them REALLY REALLY good.  Compared to everything else, this is the best autocollimator available and our customer feedback agrees.
