Not sure which dew shield fits your telescope? Try our Dew Shield Finder — match your Celestron, Meade, or refractor to the right size and the correct standard or notched version.
Farpoint telescope dew shields keep you observing and imaging all night — no more stopping to deal with dew forming on your SCT corrector plate or refractor lens. Proudly made in the USA with premium materials and careful workmanship.
Our flexible dew shields are built from nearly indestructible ABS sheet with sewn-in ultra-strong hook-and-loop fasteners. Foam padding grips your telescope firmly while protecting the finish, and the felt-lined interior reduces stray light reflections for noticeably improved contrast. They store flat for easy transport to star parties and dark sky sites.
We carry telescope dew shields sized for Celestron (4SE through 14" SCTs), Meade (8" through 16" SCTs), and select refractors. Both standard and notched versions are available — choose a notched dew shield if your scope has a side-mounted finder bracket, dovetail, or accessory bar that a standard shield would interfere with. Measure the outside diameter of your optical tube to confirm fit, or use the Dew Shield Finder to match your exact model.
Every Farpoint dew shield comes in two versions, and picking the right one takes ten seconds:
Look at the front of your optical tube: if anything sticks up within the first few inches behind the corrector, choose notched. If the front of the tube is clear, choose standard. The Dew Shield Finder recommends the correct version automatically when you select your telescope model.
If you observe anywhere with moderate to high humidity, dew formation on your optics is inevitable. A dew shield is your first line of defense — it extends the time before dew forms by shielding your corrector plate from the open sky, slowing the radiative heat loss that causes optics to drop below the dew point. Even on its own, a dew shield can add an hour or more of observing before active heating becomes necessary, and paired with a dew heater it dramatically reduces the power your heater needs to draw.
A dew shield significantly delays dew formation but does not stop it indefinitely. By blocking your corrector or objective from the open sky, it slows the radiative cooling that drives optics below the dew point — often adding an hour or more of dew-free observing. In high humidity, pairing the shield with a dew heater gives complete protection, and the shield lets the heater run at much lower power.
Check the front of your optical tube. If a finder bracket, dovetail, or accessory shoe sits within the first few inches behind the corrector, choose the notched version so the shield clears it. If the front of the tube is clear, the standard version is correct. The Dew Shield Finder selects the right version for your model automatically.
Dew shields are sized to the outside diameter of your optical tube. Measure your OTA's outside diameter, or select your telescope in the Dew Shield Finder and it returns the correct size and version. We cover Celestron 4SE through 14" SCTs, Meade 8" through 16" SCTs, and select refractors.
Start with the dew shield. It is passive, needs no power, adds no draw on your battery, and on its own buys you significant dew-free time. If you observe in persistently high humidity or run long unattended imaging sessions, add a dew heater later — the shield will let it run at far lower power.
Yes, as a side benefit. The felt-lined interior absorbs stray off-axis light that would otherwise reach your corrector or objective, slightly improving contrast in addition to its primary dew-prevention job.
Note: Farpoint dew shields are sized by telescope model and optical tube diameter. Use the Dew Shield Finder to confirm the correct size and whether you need a standard or notched version for your setup.
