Binocular Accessories
Binoculars deserve better than your hands. The right accessories transform binocular astronomy — eliminating arm fatigue, holding the view rock-steady, and protecting your investment when you're not under the sky.
Far-Sight Mount Adapter
A precision stainless-steel quick-release that puts your porro-prism binoculars on any tripod or parallelogram mount in seconds. Built far more rigidly than a bent-steel L-bracket, with an integrated finder rail on top. Sky & Telescope Hot Product 2007.
Best for: getting most porro-prism binoculars (1/4-20 socket) onto a tripod or the UBM.
Universal Binocular Mount (UBM)
A precision aluminum parallelogram mount built for serious binocular astronomy. Adjust eyepiece height across a wide vertical range without losing your target — and share the view at any height. Made in the USA.
Best for: binoculars of any size — great for small pairs, essential for large ones. Rock-steady, fatigue-free, easy to share.
JMI Binocular Travel Cases
Foam-fitted hard-shell travel cases for premium giant astronomy binoculars, designed and built in our USA facility on JMI's protective-transport heritage. Standard, or Deluxe with retractable handle and inline wheels.
Best for: APM MS 25×100 and APM 28×110 binoculars. Travel, storage, long-term protection.
Far-Sight vs. UBM — which do I need?
They solve different problems. The Far-Sight is an adapter — it gets your binoculars onto any tripod, head, or mount with a precision quick-release interface, and adds a finder rail on top. The UBM is the mount itself — a parallelogram that holds the view rock-steady, eliminates arm fatigue, and lets you share views across any height range. The UBM is great with smaller binoculars and essential for larger ones. Many observers run both: the UBM as the mount, the Far-Sight as the binocular-to-mount interface.
Built to last
Far-Sight, UBM, and JMI cases are all designed and built in the USA. JMI — known for transport cases, Wheeley Bars, MotoFocus, and other astronomy innovations — is part of the CXB Astro family, bringing decades of design heritage into the brand portfolio.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a mount or just an adapter?
If you already have a sturdy tripod and just want your binoculars on it, the Far-Sight adapter may be all you need. For fatigue-free viewing, steady high-power views, and the ability to share the view at any height, the UBM parallelogram mount is the upgrade — and the Far-Sight is the ideal interface between an inline-socket binocular and the UBM.
Will the UBM work with small binoculars?
Yes. The UBM is great with smaller binoculars and essential for larger ones (up to ~100mm aperture, 12 lb capacity). The parallelogram keeps any binocular balanced and weightless through its full range of motion.
Which travel case fits my binocular?
The JMI cases are foam-cut for specific models — the APM MS 25×100 and APM 28×110. Choose the case that names your binocular, and pick Standard for storage and short hauls or Deluxe (wheels + retractable handle) for air travel.
