This heavy-duty D-size support plate for the Celestron C-14 is 1.5″ thick — twice as thick as the standard — and many times stiffer, yet spacecraft-like light-weighting keeps it at only 6 pounds. The kit includes radius blocks matched to the C-14 tube. And the classic Farpoint fit, finish, and flair will make your rig the envy of your friends.
Why a Stiffer Plate?
The primary benefit of a thicker, stiffer dovetail support bar is decreased vibration, which eases wind sensitivity and reduces telescope settling time after a pointing move. Decreased deflection of the support bar also improves pointing accuracy and reduces the effort required by auto-guiding systems.
