I purchased the JMI 10 Inch Pneumatic Large Wheel Upgrade - Universal Style Wheeley Bars with 5/8” Leveling Screws, and overall, I’m really disappointed with the build and functionality.
• The construction feels cheap, especially for the price.
• The wheels can’t turn on axis like the standard ones, which makes maneuvering frustrating.
• There’s no way to lock the tires, which is a big drawback for safety and stability.
• Mine arrived missing parts like the bungee for the handle.
• The included white spacer is a flimsy plastic, not the blue machined aluminum spacer shown in some older product images.
• To top it off, returns aren’t free, and there’s a hefty restocking fee—so keep that in mind if you’re on the fence.
I’m honestly glad I had an old coupon code, or I’d be even more frustrated. Definitely not worth full price.
Following a careful assembly I mounted my CPC1100 fork mounted scope and tripod which is no small task for a 79 year old! I had removed the 4 inch mastered wheels to facilitate a smoother transition across my deck with the 10 inch pneumatic wheeled assembly. It succeeded in doing so until I had to extend the nose mounted 5/8” screw and found it could not be rotated at all up or down. This action is required to stabilize the scope optics as the tires are softer than the caster wheels with double locks so I cannot use the scope without a rigid foundation. I have to remove the threaded rod but not with the knob at the top cap since it spins off the shaft when turning counterclockwise. All three of these knobs will spin off the screw shaft when there is any resistance to turn them. So, I will get the problem rod out though with difficulty. I will have to remove scope once again which I am not looking forward to and put the 4” wheels back again. I will not go back to using the 10” assembly since my lifting the 70 pound scope off and back on again will end my 70 years of astronomy.
I am very pleased with my Wheely Bar system upgrade, which was shipped fast and safely from FarpointAstro. I am now able to move my telescope effortlessly from place to place. Not sure what the 5/8" Leveling Screws are? My suggestion is to provide better installation instructions. Always a pleasure to deal with FarpointAstro-JMI.
