Farpoint · Laser Collimator · 1.25"/2" Combo

The fast first step in collimating any Newtonian — set your focuser axis and ballpark the primary in seconds.

The Farpoint 650nm Laser Collimator with 1.25"/2" combo stepped barrel is our most versatile model, fitting both 1.25" and 2" focuser drawtubes with a single tool. The body is machined from a single piece of aluminum in one step — not assembled from parts — for perfect concentricity from the factory, and it's backed by a lifetime alignment guarantee. Includes a carrying case and primary mirror center-marking template. For Newtonian and Dobsonian reflectors only.

Where it fits in the workflow

Laser (this tool — focuser axis + ballpark primary) → Cheshire (precise primary) → Autocollimator (precision finish)
New to collimation? Follow our free step-by-step walkthrough. This laser is the star of Layer 2 — Two-Tool Collimation (Laser & Cheshire), part of the complete How to Collimate Your Telescope guide. Prefer to read at the eyepiece? Grab the Quick-Start PDF or the Complete Manual.
Pair it with a Cheshire for the gold standard. A laser gets your secondary aligned and the primary close; a Farpoint Cheshire eyepiece sets the primary precisely. Want both in one box? The 2" Collimation Kit bundles laser + Cheshire + center-marking kit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a laser collimator do?

It sets your focuser axis by aligning the secondary mirror, then gets your primary mirror into the ballpark — the fast first step of Newtonian collimation. You finish the primary precisely with a Cheshire. See our two-tool guide.

Does it really fit both 1.25" and 2" focusers?

Yes. The stepped combo barrel drops into a 2" drawtube or steps down into a 1.25" one, so a single tool covers every Newtonian in your collection.

Do I still need a Cheshire if I have this laser?

For the most accurate result, yes. A laser ballparks the primary; a reflective Cheshire sets it precisely. Using both in sequence is widely regarded as the gold standard — which is exactly the workflow in our collimation guide.

Will this work on my SCT or refractor?

No — Farpoint collimation tools are for Newtonian and Dobsonian reflectors only. SCTs, Maks, and refractors use different alignment methods.
