The Lumicon 2" Minus Violet Filter is primarily used to “bracket” the color-corrected band of refracting telescopes by blocking violet and ultraviolet light below approximately 420nm.

This helps reduce blue halos around bright stars and minimizes chromatic aberration (purple fringing) in photographs, especially when used with achromatic refractors or telephoto lenses. It can also serve as a visible-light filter in RGB astrophotography setups.

Most modern digital and CCD cameras already include infrared blocking, but the Minus Violet filter provides additional correction depending on how far into the blue your optics are corrected.

Key Features

  • Blocks wavelengths shorter than ~420nm
  • Reduces chromatic aberration and blue halos around stars
  • Improves sharpness in color astrophotography
  • Threads into standard 2" camera adapters (including Lumicon Prime Focus adapters)
  • Useful for both visual observing and photography with refractors

Recommended for Achromatic and semi-apochromatic refractors, telephoto lenses, and RGB imaging where blue fringing is an issue.
