Lumicon · 2" Low-Profile Prime Focus Adapter

A shortened prime focus adapter for setups where a standard adapter pushes the camera too far out to reach focus.

The Lumicon Low-Profile 2" Prime Focus Camera Adapter drops into any 2" focuser or eyepiece holder and presents male T-threads (T2 / M42×0.75mm) for your camera’s T-ring — the same connection as the standard 2" adapter, but in a deliberately shortened body. That reduced optical length is what lets back-focus-critical setups reach focus when a full-length adapter can’t. Prime focus is the simplest, sharpest way into astrophotography: you remove the camera lens and the eyepiece entirely, and let the telescope itself act as the camera lens — its full focal length projected straight onto your sensor, ideal for the Moon, planets, and bright deep-sky objects as you take your first images.

How it connects

Telescope / diagonal low-profile 2" prime focus adapter T-ring (camera-specific) camera body
When to choose the low-profile version: reach for this adapter when back-focus is tight — the camera needs to sit as close to the focuser as possible to come to focus — or when the 2" eyepiece holder itself is shallow and won’t accept a full-depth adapter. It is the right fit for Lumicon Newtonian and Cassegrain Easy Guiders, where holder depth is limited. If your focuser has plenty of in-travel to spare, the standard 2" prime focus adapter works equally well.
Nail focus on your first shots: stars are unforgiving — even a tiny focus error softens the whole frame. A Bahtinov mask makes focusing almost foolproof, turning a bright star into a clear diffraction pattern you center by eye. Choose the focus mask sized to your telescope and your first astrophotos come out sharp.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this adapter “low profile”?

Its body is deliberately shortened so the camera sits closer to the focuser. That matters when back-focus is critical — some telescopes and accessory combinations simply can’t reach focus with a full-length adapter in the path, and the reduced optical length recovers the travel you need.

Do I still need a T-ring?

Yes — like the standard 2" prime focus adapter, this version ends in the universal T-thread (T2 / M42×0.75mm). Add one T-ring matched to your camera’s lens mount (Canon EF, Canon RF, Nikon F, Sony E, etc.), sold separately, and your camera body connects to the telescope.

Will this work with my telescope?

Yes, as long as your telescope or diagonal accepts a 2" accessory. It is especially suited to shallow 2" eyepiece holders — such as Lumicon Newtonian and Cassegrain Easy Guiders — and to any setup where in-focus travel is tight.
