Event Horizon EVRP — Pegasus FocusCube 3 Crayford Focuser, Newtonian Base

A precision Crayford focuser that mounts your Pegasus FocusCube 3 focus motor and replaces the stock focuser on your Newtonian. We supply the focuser mechanics — you supply your own Pegasus motor — for true zero-backlash, zero-image-shift autofocus.

Bolting a Pegasus FocusCube onto a stock Newtonian focuser just motorizes the backlash and image shift — they’re still there. The EVRP fixes that: it gives you a true friction-drive Crayford base, and your motor mounts to it with screws using the couplers already included with your Pegasus kit. Now your autofocus routine drives a mechanism that actually holds focus.

Specifications

  • Control focus from Pegasus software and ASCOM interfaces
  • Autofocus with NINA, Sequence Generator Pro, and other popular software
  • Zero image shift, zero backlash — CNC-machined friction-drive Crayford design
  • Drawtube length of travel is configurable at the time of order (see drop-down menu)
  • Compatible with Newtonian telescope tubes 7.25″ in diameter or larger, as well as flat focuser boards
  • Calibrated resolution: 2.63 µm of drawtube travel per Pegasus FocusCube 3 motor step
  • Load capacity 8 lb · focuser weight 1.4 lb
  • Individually assembled and tested in our own facility — 100% made in the USA
You provide the motor. The EVRP ships as the focuser mechanics with the Pegasus FocusCube 3 mounting adaptation. It does not include the Pegasus FocusCube 3 motor itself.

Fitting note: Fitting a new focuser onto an existing Newtonian takes careful consideration and engineering — it is not a one-size-fits-all swap. Many publicly available tools and active community forums can help you plan the change.
What step size should your autofocus routine use? This focuser is calibrated at 2.63 µm per motor step. Use our free Autofocus Step-Size Calculator — pick your telescope and camera and it returns the exact step size for NINA, Sequence Generator Pro, Ekos and more, with this focuser's calibration already loaded.

Optional Optical Adapters

  • JMI Combination 1.25″ Eyepiece & T-Thread Adapter (ADPT2-1.25T) — for camera use. Mounts a CCD or other T-threaded camera into a 2″ drawtube, and doubles as a 1.25″ adapter. Uses a compression ring and includes 48 mm filter threads on the focuser end.
  • Farpoint 2″ Focuser to 1.25″ Eyepiece Adapter (FAV100) — a visual 2″-to-1.25″ eyepiece adapter with a non-marring compression ring. Threaded for both 2″ and 1.25″ filters, with a stop to keep long eyepieces from damaging filters.
