Keep your Vixen bars — replace the stock clamp that's scarring them.
Older-generation Sky-Watcher EQ6 and Orion Atlas mounts shipped with a small Vixen-style saddle that grips your dovetail with a bare retaining screw. The Farpoint Vixen Saddle Conversion replaces the stock head outright with a firm-grip V-size saddle built around a side clamping bar — over 20 times the clamping area of a retaining screw, holding harder without scarring or deforming the dovetail bar. The complete unit comes mounted on its EQ6 puck adapter and installs with the screws already on your mount.
Installation: Three Screws, No Machining
- Loosen the screws holding the original saddle “puck” in place and set the stock head aside.
- Attach the complete Farpoint unit in its place.
- Re-tighten the screws — conversion complete. Your mount now grips V-size dovetail bars with the full clamping bar.
Standard or New Profile? Check Before You Order
EQ6-family mounts have been made with two different saddle-base profiles over the years. This conversion fits the standard (older) profile. Before ordering, remove or examine your mount's stock saddle puck and compare its side profile against the diagram below.

V-Size or D-Size Conversion?
Both replace the stock EQ6 / Atlas head the same way — pick by the dovetail bars you run.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it fit my mount?
It fits Sky-Watcher EQ6 and Orion Atlas mounts with the standard (older) saddle profile. EQ6-family mounts were made with two profiles over the years — check your stock puck against the profile diagram. Unsure? Email us a photo of your mount's saddle and we'll confirm.
Why a clamping bar instead of the stock screw?
The stock saddle grips your dovetail with the tip of a retaining screw — a tiny contact patch that digs divots into the bar. The Farpoint side clamping bar spreads the grip across more than 20 times that area: it holds harder and leaves your dovetail unmarked, no matter how many times you set up and tear down.
Should I go V-size or D-size?
If your telescopes carry V-size (Vixen-style) bars, this saddle keeps everything compatible while fixing the clamp. Running heavier gear or planning to standardize on the wider D-size (Losmandy-style) bars? The D-size EQ6 / Atlas conversion is the same three-screw swap.
