The factory rubber tips on your Wheeley Bar's leveling screws work well on hard surfaces — concrete, driveway, garage floor — but they sink straight into lawn, dirt, or loose gravel. The JMI Soft Ground Feet are a drop-in upgrade: three steel feet with a 3″ diameter landing pad that thread onto your leveling screws in place of the rubber tips, distributing the load across a much larger footprint. The result is a firm, stable purchase that holds level all night, no matter the surface.

Confirm your leveling screw size before ordering. This set fits 1/2″ leveling screws only. Pull one leveling screw out of your bar and measure the thread diameter. 1/2″ is the older standard. 5/8″ is the current HD standard — for that, order the 5/8″ version instead.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why not just use the factory rubber tips on soft ground?
The factory rubber tips have a small contact patch (under half a square inch). On hard surfaces that's fine, but on grass, dirt, or gravel the tip sinks straight down into the soft ground under the weight of the mount and OTA. You lose your level, the rubber wears prematurely, and you may even tip the bar if the screws sink unevenly. The Soft Ground Feet spread the same load across about 7 square inches — the math does the work.
Do I need three, or can I just buy one?
You need three — one for each leveling screw on your Wheeley Bar. The set includes all three at one price ($65). Mixing factory rubber tips with Soft Ground Feet on the same bar will cause uneven leveling.
Which Wheeley Bars does this 1/2″ set fit?
The Standard Medium Wheeley Bar and older HD Medium / HD Large bars from before the 5/8″ upgrade. Not compatible with current HD Medium, HD Large, or HD Shorty (which use 5/8″ screws). For those, see the 5/8″ version.
How do I install them?
Unscrew the rubber tip and fender washer from the bottom of each leveling screw, then thread the Soft Ground Foot onto the same thread. No tools required — your fingers do the job. The whole swap takes about 2 minutes for all three.
Can I leave the Soft Ground Feet on for hard-surface observing too?
Yes — they work fine on concrete and pavement. They're slightly less compliant than the rubber tips on textured hard surfaces but won't damage anything. Many observers leave them on year-round since most observing happens somewhere soft.
