Our EZ-Glide kit is a user installable, permanent upgrade kit for your Dobsonian telescope.  This kit permanently attaches casters to the base of your telescope which greatly improves the portability and usability of your telescope.

It is well known that the most used telescope is the one that is easiest to use.  By transforming your telescopes mobility, you will find yourself actually using your telescope more and enjoying the night sky more often.  Spend more time observing and less time moving and setting up your telescope.

A significant fringe benefit to this modification is that the telescope eyepiece is elevated by almost 7” and for smaller telescopes this greatly helps to alleviate bending down into awkward positions to view.

Features

Main body: the mounting plate is made from high tensile strength steel for maximum rigidity and durability.  Steel is 2.7 times stiffer than aluminum and therefore vibrates less and dampens vibrations just a fast.  The finish is highly durable, UV stable thermoset textured black powder coating – tough as nails and won’t chip or flake like paint.

Flexibility in mounting: the main mounting plate has a variety of mounting holes and positions to fit virtually any size and style of Dobsonian telescope base with a design emphasis for mounting on the most popular scopes made by GSO & Synta (sold under a variety of brands like Antares, Apertura, Hardin, Zhumell, Celestron, Meade, Orion and Skywatcher).   Realistically, this system will fit nearly any Dobsonian telescope with a wooden base.

Locking Casters: The Ez-Glide kit comes with locking casters as standard equipment or a “Total Lock” Option which locks the wheel as well as the swivel for increased  stability.

What’s in the kit? Our kit includes:  Three mounting plates, three smooth rolling polyurethane casters, self-tapping screws for mounting the plates to your telescope and ¼”-20 cap screws for mounting the casters.   You will need to provide a phillips head screwdriver and a 7/16” standard wrench.

My observing location is off-pavement.  Will these work?  5” polyurethane casters  perform the best on hard surfaces like concrete or pavement and should not be subjected to extremely dirty situations.  If your off-pavement area has a hard surface and is not too bumpy or uneven then you may be able to use this kit with caution.  However, the best option for off-pavement use and rough surfaces is our purpose built Sky Trekker series Wheely Bars.

Our Sky Trekker series Wheeley Bars have 10" diameter pneumatic tires that will effortlessly roll across hard and soft surfaces as well as dirt, grass and other uneven surfaces.  The Sky Trekker Wheeley Bars include built-in leveling screws to level and stabilize your scope once moved into position.

Options:

• Upgrade to  "Total Lock" casters for an even more stable platform.
• IF yo uneed to save money you may choose to downgrade to 2.75" casters but only do so if you operate on very smooth concrete.
