The Triangle Style Leveling Screws and Hardware Upgrade Kit is the complete leveling kit for the JMI Triangle Style Wheeley Bar (for 8″, 10″, and 12″ Dobsonians). It includes three 5/8″ heavy-duty leveling screws plus the threaded mounting hardware required to install them on the Triangle Style frame — the bar's natural mounting points get the inserts that accept the screws, and the screws thread in from there.
Once installed, you can level your Dobsonian platform with a quick twist of each knob — critical for tracking objects manually on a Dobsonian, since any tilt makes the eyepiece field of view drift over time. The 5/8″ screws are the heavy-duty diameter standardized across the current JMI HD lineup, so they carry the platform's load without flex or wear. Triangle Style only. This kit is specifically for the JMI Triangle Style Wheeley Bar for 8″, 10″, and 12″ Dobsonians. The mounting hardware is sized for the Triangle Style frame and won't fit Universal-style Wheeley Bars. Why Leveling Matters on a Dobsonian Platform
Dobsonian telescopes track objects by manual nudging — there's no motor compensating for the rocker box being out of level. If the platform is tilted even a degree or two, the eyepiece field of view drifts noticeably faster in one direction than the other, and you'll find yourself constantly chasing the object across the field. A few seconds with the leveling knobs at the start of the session fixes that for the whole night.
Leveling also matters when you're swapping between objects at different parts of the sky. A truly level platform makes the manual tracking motion intuitive and predictable, which is the difference between a relaxed observing session and one where you're always one nudge behind.

Does the Triangle Style Wheeley Bar ship without leveling screws by default?
The Triangle Style bar focuses on rolling and transport — leveling is an upgrade since not every observer needs it. If your observing pad is reliably level, you can skip leveling screws. If your pad has any slope or texture, this kit makes manual Dobsonian tracking much more comfortable.
Why 5/8″ and not 1/2″?
5/8″ is the current heavy-duty standard JMI uses across the HD Wheeley Bar lineup. Larger thread diameter carries more load, flexes less under heavy Dobsonians, and matches the size of compatible accessories (drill adapters, soft-ground feet). There's no 1/2″ version of this kit for the Triangle Style.
How long does the install take?
About 15–20 minutes the first time. You'll need a basic hand-tool set to bolt the mounting hardware to the Triangle Style frame's mount points, then the leveling screws thread in by hand. The instructions in the box walk through it step by step.
Can I add Soft Ground Feet to this leveling kit?
The screw threads are 5/8″ so the Soft Ground Foot 5/8″ thread itself matches, but the Soft Ground Foot product is currently specified for Universal-style Wheeley Bars, not Triangle Style.
