Farpoint Universal Binocular Mount (UBM)
Have not received anything yet. I followed the shipment on the UPS site. It is standing still in Kempton Park, South Africa from 22/03. It says that they tried to contact me about clearance information. I did not received any calls of email from UPS. I would like to contact the people in South Africa, warehouse in Kempton Park, but I cannot find any contact details. Maybe you could assist me? The number on the UPS site is a US number. I could not get any answer. Thanks
I am really impressed by the quality of the UBM binocular mount. The delivery was relatively fast even though there was some delay due to the fact that the invoice was not clearly detailed. Thanks also to Cindy for her kind card!
The UBM with swing hinge allows comfortable viewing of targets at high target altitudes from a reclined position. The swing hinge assembly facilitates sweeping for targets and allows some tracking of targets without moving your seating as frequently. Previously I have used a tripod for large binoculars. This requires craning your neck to an agonizing degree to view objects at high altitudes with straight through binoculars. I then bought an Orion Paragon-Plus Binocular Mount but had to make a home brew binocular swing to allow mounting my 20 x 80 binoculars at a right angle to the parallelogram assembly. This is necessary to allow the binoculars to cantilever out over a reclining pool or zero gravity chair so one can recline while observing those high targets. While I also had incorporated full swing hinge capabilities in my home brew, it would loosen up with use and require frequent adjustments. The UBM with swing hinge mounted on my Orion Tritech II Field Tripod addresses all these issues. The only downside is that it is fairly heavy and difficult to move when fully assembled on the tripod. Removing the binoculars and weights will address this but with the added inconvenience of some reassembly. The two 5-pound weights are more than I need for my fairly light 20 x 80 Orion Astronomy binoculars but give you additional weight capacity compared to the Orion Paragon-Plus Binocular Mount, and with much less expense (and weight) than the Orion Monster Parallelogram Binocular Mount. In my only outing so far, the Farpoint mount allowed me to observe all 5 double stars on my target list in an hour and a half from my light polluted backyard. They were all high targets as the sky is darker near the zenith.
